Hello everyone – and welcome to another exciting addition of Free Tool Friday! Every week, we take a look at a free tool designed to help you to stay productive and ensure that your indie studio keeps chugging right along. This week’s tool is undoubtedly the most unique productivity tool we have featured here on Free Tool Friday – and we know that you are going to love it. I’m talking about HabitRPG – a productivity tool disguised as an RPG!

HabitRPG is the perfect example of using gamification to improve your life. Turning all of your tasks into monsters that you have to defeat every single day, it is enough to give you that extra push that you need to stay on task and get your work done. The more tasks (or should we say monsters) you conquer every day, the more you will progress in HabitRPG.

If you stop paying attention to these tasks? Your character is going to suffer in the game. The more time you put into the game and progress, the easier it is going to be to stay on task; what an ingenious idea!

To begin the game by creating your character and listing some good habits, bad habits, and tasks that you want to work on. Personalize each habit and task accordingly, and play the game to reflect life: engage in good habits and tasks and stay away from the bad habits! The more good habits and tasks you complete, the more experience and gold you will learn. From there, you can level up, increase your stats, and even unlock additional features such as extra classes and pets. Gold can also be used purchase in-game items; again, what an awesome idea.

But what happens when you indulge in bad habits or fail to complete a certain task? You begin to lose health. If you lose too much health, your character will die in you will lose some of your progress. You do not want this to happen too much as the game also features boss battles! Boss battles are awesome, because they allow you to join a party and be more accountable for staying away from bad habits and staying on task more than ever. For example, if you do not do a certain task during a boss battle, your entire party is hurt as a result (which makes you look like a jerk).

Available on the Web, iOS, and Android, this is a tool that everyone needs to use at least once. Give it a shot today, and not only will you find the game to be pretty addictive, but you will have more of a reason than ever before to stay on task!
