Indie Game Marketing: Blogging Tips To Be Thankful For!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the United States. As a result, we will be taking the day off tomorrow (meaning no new articles Thursday), so our apologies in advance (I suppose we’ll have to drown our sorrows in delicious turkey and dressing – rats). But before we take the day off, I thought it would be ideal to provide you guys with a few indie game marketing tips that will improve the reach of your indie studio’s blog. You will be thankful for by the end of this post (at least I hope so)! These are all random tips you can use immediately, so let’s get to it!

Use WordPress to blog? Use this plugin

If your indie studio uses WordPress and you blog on the website regularly, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be using Yoast’s fantastic WordPress SEO plugin. Not only do we use this post here at Game Academy, but other clients I’ve had over the years that use WordPress take advantage of this exact plugin – and it has helped their discoverability tremendously. The beauty of the plugin is that it’s self-explanatory and will help you to rank for a particular keyword, meaning you will be ranking properly in no time!

Encourage comments

The conversation doesn’t end when your readers finish a post. Remind them of this by asking them to leave a comment, ask a question, etc. in the comments section below. I try to do this every time I write a post here at Game Academy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s always worth including at the end of each post.

Use custom images whenever possible

Especially when including headers in your post (the top image above each post), try to use custom images whenever possible. Unique content – yes, even original images – can help your blog posts to rank higher than they would if you had used ordinary stock images. The images don’t have to be anything complicated either (in fact, the simpler the better), but if you have no idea how to design original content, consider hiring someone to outsource it to. It may seem like a lot of trouble, but if you want to rank better than ever quickly, it’s a great tip to consider.

From all of us as Game Academy – Happy Thanksgiving!
