Today, Apple announced 2013 was one of its best years. During the past 12 months customers spent over $10 billion dollars purchasing and downloading apps in their store. An incredible three billion apps were downloaded in December alone, making it not only a successful month but ground breaking as well.
Awesome Developers Like You = Apple’s Success
In the announcement, Apple thanked all of the developers that created stunning apps that captured and engaged users across the globe. The massive amount of downloads is due to the quality apps that people just had to have. The year was filled with unexpected successes in the form of Ellen DeGeneres’ Heads Up, ProtoGeo’s Moves, Simon Filip’s Aferlight, and Kevin NG’s Impossible Road.
Mega hits like Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, Puzzles & Dragons, QuizUp and Clumsy Ninja took the app world by storm. Many of these titles were from new or international developers.
“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store, “ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”
Since its debut in 2008, Apple has paid an estimated $15 billion to talented devs for creating apps in their store. There are over one million apps with users from 155 different countries giving devs whether new to the scene or veterans a powerful platform with massive potential for success.
