The psychological textual puzzle adventure game by Simogo appropriately named DEVICE 6, has been nominated in four out of the six eligible categories in this year’s annual Independent Games Festival Competition.
DEVICE 6 recently won second place in the iPhone Game of the Year competition with Ridiculous Fishing snagging the reigning title. It’s rare for an indie game to receive that kind of recognition next to popular mainstream games like Plants vs Zombies 2.
At the IGF the app has been nominated in Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Narrative, Excellence in Audio and for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize with honorable mentions in the only two categories it did not receive a nod, Excellence in Design and the Nuovo Award.
The game is rather unique combining several scarcely used elements to create a perplexing puzzler. In a previous interview with Simogo’s Simon Flesser he confesses, “We find the concept of a puzzle story really fascinating. Most things are actually there, but it’s a bit fragmented, and I guess you’d have to play it two or three times to piece it all together. We like to keep things a bit elegant and not let the players feel stupid.”
DEVICE 6 beat out over 650 other games that were entered into this year’s competition. The official winners will be announced during the Independent Game Festival held in Sand Francisco on March 19th.
